Detailed Description
Due to discriminatory real estate practices, African Americans were restricted to living in certain areas in St. Louis. These areas became centers of African American culture and community. During the 1940s-1970s, these practices were declared unconstitutional, and more housing options opened up for African Americans. Many of their former communities began to decline, but this book captures their former glory.
