This documentary examines the later career of this distinguished St. Louisan. As territorial governor, Clark played a major role in Missouri's quest for statehood. As Indian Agent for the Louisiana territory, he was caught up in the tragic effort to resettle the Indian population without obliterating tribal cultures. Clark also helped decisively frame an image of the American West, which would prevail throughout the nineteenth century and into the popular culture of our own time.
